Gillespie proudly partnered with architects BDP and contractors ISTAK to expand Smaralind, Iceland’s largest shopping mall. The project aimed to create a world-class retail space in Reykjavik, in which offered an expanded shopping experience to both locals and visitors.
Iceland has no local production of engineered GRG (Glass Reinforced Gypsum), making Gillespie UK the perfect choice. As Europe’s largest sole manufacturer of Zerodec 3D GRG, we supplied the mall with ceiling bulkheads and column casings. Our Zerodec GRG provided the ideal combination of strength, flexibility, and aesthetic appeal for this high-profile development.
We produced the Zerodec GRG off-site in a factory environment. This method saved the contractor valuable labor time on-site and improved efficiency. By manufacturing in a controlled setting, it allowed us to ensure precision and high-quality standards while accelerating the installation process. Additionally, our off-site production promoted sustainability by minimizing waste and reducing the environmental impact.
The Zerodec GRG we supplied offered superior fire resistance and durability. These qualities ensured the mall met strict safety and performance requirements. Furthermore, the versatility of our product facilitated easy adaptation to the mall’s modern design, enhancing both form and function.
